It is one of the last remaining skate park from the 1970's and for over 40 years Tampa Bay's historic Bro Bowl has borne the distinction of of not only being the world's first public skate-park, but a skateboarding mecca for devotees to the sport. Bro Bowl became such an important location in the world of skateboarding it was also included in video games by icon Tony Hawk.
This Spring after much debate over whether the park should be demolished or moved, the Bro Bowl was not just saved it was redesigned and moved a short distance away. This Spring it reopened to an excited Mayor Bob Buckhorn cutting the grand opening ribbon then surprising the crowd by laying down to become a human obstacle on the course showing no fear a cyclist skillfully leaped over him.
"The original bowl was located in the middle of an area with historic roots to the African-American community's business and cultural tradition in Tampa. The City of Tampa has redesigned the park as a place to honor that history while relocating an exact replica of the the skateboard bowl to the north of its original site." TampasDowntown.com
