Did You Know May is National Bike Month?









    Whether you ride for environmental reasons, personal health, economics, or leisure, this is the month to show your friends and family why you pedal. May is National Bike Month, a time to educate people about the many benefits of cycling, celebrate bicycling culture, and encourage bike riding.  In, celebration our friends over the Tampa Downtown Partnership are all in for Bike Month and want you to be fully aware of all the programs, activities and resources available in Tampa Bay:

While biking for recreation and fitness is popular, the Downtown Partnership has outlined several resources to show you how to use your bicycle as a mode of transportation. Don’t have your own bike? Here are two options for you:
  • Sign up for Coast Bike Share membership! The Partnership has teamed up with Coast Bike Share to offer residents of the 33602 zip code a free trial month. Click here for more information.
  • Shop for your dream ride at City Bike Tampa. This full-service downtown bicycle shop offers new sales, full repairs, rentals, accessories, and more! 10% off all tires all month!

  • Find a “bike buddy” for your commute: Click here.  
  • HART buses hold two bikes on the front rack and allow folding bikes to be brought onboard.
  • The Emergency Ride Home Program offers a free taxi ride home from work to registered bike commuters.
  • Most downtown high rises have bike parking and access to showers. There are also over 200 public bike racks downtown! And the Downtown Partnership helped make that happen!

Bike fun this weekend can be found at Bikes Blues Brews at Grand Central on Kennedy.  New Belgium Brewing presents Bikes, Blues Brews (BBB) to raise funds for the Channel District Community Alliance and to also provide a donation to Special Olympics Florida – Hillsborough County.
